Hello All! Here's my Top 13 Ugliest Cars that come to mind this year. This is literally the first 13 cars I could think of in the order I think they deserve.
Note: This is my opinion and mine alone! it may or may not be the same as yours, so deal with it! :D
#13. Lamborghini Veneno
Lamborghini is well known for producing some of the coolest yet outlandish designs for a while.(Countach and Aventador come to mind.) Now don't get me wrong! I love Lambo's; but this one is too extreme. it's as if Lamborghini told J.J Abram's to design it and he used the Mach 5 as a base design!
#12. Chevrolet HHR
It's simply a "wannabee PT Cruiser" and I think the PT Cruiser looks much better. Personally They're both ugly to me but if I had to pick one I'd take the Cruiser.
#11. 2013 Dodge Dart
I have only one problem with this car. This is not a Dodge Dart:
This is a Dodge Dart! A proper '62 Dart to be exact. What you are actually looking at up there is a Fiat Viaggio. And that's all that needs to be said...Moving on!
#10. 2014 Porsche Panamera
This picture says it all. This is the ugly cousin of the 911 and they should have just made a 928 on this platform..Still waiting for that day.
#9. 2013 Smart Fortwo
This stubby little eyesore is annoying to drive behind on the road and it's probably a hazard to drive if it were crashed too. Surprisingly enough(or not) I'd rather have this than #8...
#8. Toyota Prius
This car is overly pretentious another pain on the road and it's never gonna go away. To be fair though, it's egg-shaped design is defined by the fact that it's a hybrid. That being said, there are better looking hybrids and now on to #7.
#7. Fiat Multipla
Not sure why I like it more than a Prius. It's uglier than a Prius no doubt, but maybe I put the Prius before the Multipla because it's a Prius?...
#6. 11th Gen. Ford Thunderbird
It seems to be come from the same people that brought you the PT Cruiser, only that this should go back to the 50s and 60s. There's just something about it that's just wrong to me. Too retro looking perhaps?
#5. Kia Soul/Scion xb
I couldn't decide between these two boxes, so I chose both! This car, is to geometrically perfect to be a car and I don't see the appeal in a boxcar that has aerodynamics similar to that of a brick wall.
#4. 2014 Cadillac CTS
If Batman isn't driving one in matte black then it's not a good looking car. Anyway, personally I just hate Cadillac. I feel as though they're trying too hard to attract a younger audience to their cars. There's also this feeling of "I'm compensating for something" whenever I see one on the road.(no disrespect to Cadillac owners here)
#3. Pontiac Aztek
This is one of the cars that we can all agree brought Pontiac down to a certain death. this is the one car that I wouldn't drive over a Prius. That front end, what were they thinking!?
Now to the Top 2! This was a hard choice, but I think you all will agree with me on this one...
#2. 2014 Jeep Cherokee
This isn't a Jeep. Those headlights(which are actually DRLs on top), and that bent, slender grille. I just don't understand why they went with such a radical design. I think we all would've been OK if they made it look like a Compass or a Grand Cherokee, or hey! maybe it could have looked like I don't know... the original Cherokee??
And now for #1. This car was just recently brought to my attention, and as soon as I saw it, I knew where it had to go... the #1 Ugliest Car is!!!...
#1. 2014 Lexus IS250 F Sport
What the hell is wrong with that grille?? It's like looking into an optical illusion! It's huge too! that hideous maw ruins the car. It just goes to show how much one part of the car can ruin it and this one tops all things; even the Cherokee's slanted lights...
Well here it is, hope you all enjoyed and never forget that beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I wonder what the demon spawn of #1 and #2 would look like if they mated
![]() 12/01/2013 at 23:58 |
|
I think I've got a mental block preventing me from picturing it. But one can only imagine the horror....
What did you think about my other choices and the order I put them in?
![]() 12/01/2013 at 23:59 |

It would look like

I think the new CTS is gorgeous in a bold and sinister sort of way, but to each his own, right?
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:02 |

LOL I had never seen that GIF. I actually laughed out loud.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:04 |
|
You sir, have made me laugh and vomit at the same time. that deserves a reward.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:06 |
|
Of course! It just doesn't work for me. I knew that the Aztek, Panamera and Cherokee would have to be on teh list, but the others; that took some thinking of where to place them.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:06 |

The son of Alien and Predator would probably look better...
I agree with all your picks being ugly other than:
#13 - I know it's weird looking. But I like it for some reason. Dunno why
#11 - why does the new Dart have to look like the old one? I don't care that the new one is actually a Fiat. I just want it to have a better engine.
#5 - I'm going to be shot for this but I don't hate either of those cars. I would never buy either. But I don't hate them.
#4 - I saw it in person and it wasn't bad. Not as nice looking as the ATS. But not bad
#7 was my fav that you listed. God that think is ugly! I forgot about that car
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:13 |
|
#13. It is very weird, I just think they went too far with it.
#11. Thank you for saying that. I think that when someone looks at a car's progression over the decades, you expect it to have the looks of it's predecessor, though with constant updates in accordance with the time period. Cars like the Mustang and Corvette come to mind. They still have the basic shape and design of the original, but with many tweaks and updates to bring it in line with the modern age. This one is just unusual in that respect.
#5. You're not gonna be shot for that I don't think.
#4. I agree that the ATS looks better.
#7. Interesting... ;-)
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:18 |
|
#13 - I agree they went too far. But that's kind of what's cool about it. It's not a car for someone who is rich. It's for someone who is WAY TOO RICH. So it would suit them. I could see someone who already has every Lamborghini made in the last 30 years in his mega garage buying this crazy looking car just because.
#11 - to that point, since the Dart wasn't in production for years I think it's allowed to change. The Mustang and Corvette never ceased production so each version has to somewhat resemble the prior ones. But the Dart died so the new one has nothing to do with the old one really.

I'm confused as to why you left out this monstrosity.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:22 |
|
#13. Soo Jay Leno Perhaps?
#11. I can see that makes sense. I think they would have been fine if they just called it the newest Dodge Neon though.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:33 |
|
I actually considered it for #5. but I thought about the Soul and the xb first. It is, however #5 in spirit!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:34 |
|
Well, it's uglier than either of them and nastier inside, IMO anyway.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:38 |
|
I am confused why 4 of 13 are no longer in production in 2013 but are still on the list?
HHR (2011), Multipla (2010), Thunderbird (2005) and Aztek (2005).
Is the Prius really that ugly?
Also, side note: on my way to Austin last week there was a new Cherokee on I-10. She didn't understand that she was only using DRL's in the dark and it made me scared to drive near her.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:39 |

I'd have to agree, the headlights are weird, the doors windows are oddly shaped compared to the rest of the "car" and the more I stare at it the more I question not making it number 5. :D
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:39 |
|
My mother wants me to get a brand new #9 as my first car actually, because she thinks it's safer due to all of the things it has to do to compensate for it's small size.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:42 |
|
XD. Yeah, the wraparound window on one side in the back is just a "wtf???" move. Top Gear Magazine describes it as "Looks like a box. Drives like one too." if I remember right.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:42 |
|
I'm not sure why the Prius is on the list. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but, I think it looks great. I'm not saying you assume this as well but I'm going to go out and say this: I hate when people say they don't like the way a car looks because it's a bad car or they don't like it. This goes the other way around as well. I know a lot of people who say the Veyron is the best looking car ever. I personally don't like it and could almost call it ugly. Sorry for the rant; just though I'd share since it was on topic.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:45 |
|
I'm curious, what exactly does it do to compensate? it's only slightly longer and taller than my Astra. Take a look at this picture. My Astra, I think is also the better looking too.
Are there any other cars to consider?
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:53 |
|
I agree with you all the way on that. Just because a car looks ugly doesn't make it an ugly performer. I actually wrote a paper on the Prius a couple weeks prior, and I found it not to be a bad car, just not the best hybrid vehicle as you could say the general media has put it out to be. I'm just not a fan of it's somewhat stereotypical hybrid shaping(the "bubble stance" I call it). I'm also sure that it's appearance does in fact appeal to others; you clearly as well. I love hatchbacks but this one just isn't for me. And power to you for believing in what you think! :D
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:54 |

it's been said that the engine is used to absorb the impact. This is the Smart I'm talking about.
I've been considering older cars, as I'm willing to go down the Fix-it-Yourself route.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:55 |
|
I was actually talking about the driver/passenger windows, but now that you mention it, EWW!!!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:56 |
|
Haha yeah Leno could afford it. Or the Sultan of some place
You know maybe Neon would have been more fitting.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:58 |
|
Oops! read my own list wrong! :O
Yeah I guess that makes some sense, but I mean would that really protect you from lets say a truck or SUV(certainly hope that doesn't happen to you) and the engine being used as an impact bumper so to speak, I don't think the engine covers the sides or the rear. Just a couple more things to consider is all. The fact is, the bigger the car the safer you'll be.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 00:59 |
|
Yeah have you seen his garage? XD
It is the first compact sedan since the Neon anyway. I guess it was an attempt to not compare or relate it to the Neon maybe.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:02 |
|
Yeah his garage rules!
I guess they wanted to ditch Neon after they ruined it by neglecting it. It was a good sub brand at first but they didn't evolve the cars enough
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:04 |
|
...the engine is in the back.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:06 |
|
I agree. I've been in my friends Neon. One of the worst rides of my life. The engine idled poorly and was rough, and I found the acceleration to be sluggish sitting in the passenger seat. I can only imagine what it's actually like at the wheel
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:10 |
|
Your Astra, like all of that gen, is a beaut. How does it drive?
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:15 |
|
It handles like a beauty. Sport tuned suspension and all, it goes where you want it to go and turns as sharp as long as you can stay in the seat! Definitely better than most even today.(the new focus and maybe the fiesta for two) mileage is pretty average but good nonetheless. Though the only place I could see it falling short is the gearbox. It either comes with a 4-speed auto or 5-speed manual. I wish I had the manual but the auto does it's job well, plus it has overdrive=fun on the highway. The engine is a bit weak for its sleek design too. Could use some more horses and torque. Or gym could have given us a turbo like they have in the uk with the Astra VXr
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:18 |
|
It is? Didn't even bother to look that up. Either way, I can't really see it as a safe car. And now that I know the engines in the rear, what steps have they actually taken to protect the drivers front and sides besides of course a bumper?
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:23 |
|
Safety cage. Google the crash tests.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:35 |
|
The list of things I wouldn't do for a VXR is shorter than you'd expect. It's three or four items, I think.
It's not like GM has anything against hot, turbocharged hatches on the US market. They put the Focus and Fiesta STs up for offer in the US. Why didn't they just give us the sexier Astra?
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:39 |
|
I just watched this one. It handles itself well under the given scenarios, I'll give it that; however, like I, and the guy and the video said, the car is small and light and that isn't the best thing in a car crash. Even something like a Prius would do better.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:44 |
|
Well, while GM didn't have much to do with Ford from what I know, technically we do have the sexier Astra, in the form of the Buick Verano. Same car essentially, and I don't really think the hot hatch maket is nearly as big as it is in Europe. In the US, we've got the Ford STs, the Hyundai Veloster turbo and the GTI. I'm still waiting for the Astra's return though! Maybe if Saturn hadn't gone defunct like Pontiac and if GM wasn't nearly as stupid then, maybe we'd have that Astra here. :(
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:45 |
|
Tbh, I'd feel safer in a smart than a ford ranger, which only got three stars. Plus, in a car that thin and short, you have a much much greater chance of being able to avoid the accident in the first place.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:47 |
|
It's just not the same. I'm crying now.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:52 |
|
While I'm not quite sure how that last statement works, as it really does depend on the drivers and how they react to whatever situation they may find themselves in, what I can say, is while smaller, you may be harder to see by another driver, perhaps in a taller vehicle. And there'll always be that hint of doubt whether or not you are actually safer or not. But I'll agree with you on one thing: I'd be safe in anything else than a truck!
![]() 12/02/2013 at 01:55 |
|
No need to cry. I'm sure we'll have another Astra here someday. It may take some time but sure enough it'll return. Just keeping believing in it and it'll come true! :)
![]() 12/02/2013 at 02:03 |
|
The last thing I'd like to add in, is that the smart I think only works best as a town car, given it's short length and room for only two. If I had to choose something of similar size, I'd have a Mini tbh.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 09:31 |
|
Does anyone else really love the styling of the Panamera? I don't really like the direction porsche is going with it, but I think it is a great looking car.
![]() 12/02/2013 at 09:42 |
|
I think many, including Porsche fans, will agree with me on this one.
I really want to like its design. Looking at it from the front and rear, it isn't that bad. But the side profile, it just doesn't seem attractive to some. It just seems to be a misshapen hatchback. I guess you could see it two ways. It's either ugly, or awkward. I also think that we would have been better off with a spiritual successor to the 928: a proper 2-door grand tourer.
But hey, everyone's got their own opinion. :)
